(Points-tested) stream
This visa lets invited workers with skills we need, to live and work permanently anywhere in Australia.
Eligibility
To be eligible for the Skilled Independent (Points-tested) stream you must:
- be invited to apply for the visa
- have an occupation that is on the relevant skilled occupation list
- have a suitable skills assessment for that occupation
- satisfy a points test requirement
- be under 45 years of age.
- have Competent English.
- You must be able to meet these eligibility criteria at the time you are invited to apply for the visa. Other visa criteria also apply.

Skilled Nominated
Visa Subclass 190
The Skilled Nominated Visa subclass 190 allows skilled workers who are nominated by an Australian state or territory government live and work in Australia as a permanent resident.
Eligibility
To be eligible for the Skilled Nominated Visa subclass 190 you must:
- be invited to apply for the visa
- have an occupation that is on the skilled occupations list
- have a suitable skills assessment for that occupation
- satisfy a points test requirement
- be under 45 years of age
- have Competent English.
- You must be able to meet these eligibility criteria at the time you are invited to apply for the visa. Other visa criteria also apply.

Permanent Residence (Skilled Regional)
Visa Subclass 191
This visa allows people who have lived and worked in designated regional areas of Australia on an eligible visa, live and work in Australia permanently
With this visa you can:
- stay permanently
- work and study anywhere in Australia
- Sponsor eligible relatives for permanent residence
- apply for Australian citizenship, if eligible.
You must:
- hold an eligible visa for at least 3 years. Eligible visas are Subclass 491 and 494 visas.
- have lived for at least 3 years and be able to provide notices of assessment issued by the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) for three income years out of the five years of your eligible visa
- have complied with the conditions of the eligible visa you hold or have help.

National Innovation Visa Subclass 858
This is a permanent visa for people who have an internationally recognised record of exceptional and outstanding achievement in an eligible area
Eligibility
You might be able to get this visa if you have an internationally recognised record of exceptional and outstanding achievement in:
- a profession.
- a sport.
- the arts.
- academia and research.
You must
- be invited to apply for this visa and lodge your visa application within 60 days of invitation

- either be in or outside Australia but not in immigration clearance when you apply and when we grant this visa
- have a nominator with a national reputation in your area of talent who is one of the following:
- an Australian citizen
- an Australian permanent resident
- an eligible New Zealand citizen
- an Australian organisation.
